David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ (1999)

ok I have to share a quick story about eXistenZ.

A guy called my work a while back and asked for a movie. He couldn’t pronounce it, so he spelled it out for me. He spelled it out as E-X-I-S-T-E-N. I was writing it down, and obviously became aware of the movie he was looking for- but became a little confused when he left out the Z.

So I told him, “Oh, ok so you’re looking for eXistenZ”.

He then told me that he was looking for the first one, and that the one he had watched was Existen 2. NOT eXisten- with a Z on the end.

It was so difficult, for whatever reason, for this guy to understand that the Z was not a 2, and eXistenZ was a stand-alone film, not a sequel. 

It was also incredibly difficult for me to not be like “R U FUCKING SERIOUS? YOU ARE DUMB, REALLY REALLY DUMB. FOR REAL”
